Why adopting healthy habits at work is great for business

Some of the team at Indigo8 Corporate Services participated in a challenge to walk 10,000 steps each day in August. The activity was arranged by the company’s Get Healthy at Work Committee to encourage more physical activity during working hours.

In total, 22 participants logged 8,713120 steps over four weeks.

Employee Joanne Rao was the company’s top-stepper; she recorded 684,659 steps during the challenge and says: “Each day, I made a conscious effort to go for a walk during my breaks and I would also walk my dog after work.

“Now that the competition is over, I am feeling fitter and my clothes are fitting better too which are both good reasons to continue being active while at work.”

Indigo8’s Human Resources Manager Deena noticed that the challenge didn’t just bring people together – it also created some healthy competition between the teams.

“It was good to see employees motivating each other to do their best and yes, we had a few competitive people participate, but we made it clear that this activity isn’t about winning.

“Our employees are our most valuable asset, and it’s important that we care for their health and well-being which is the core focus of the challenge.

“It’s a fact that staff who are healthier and happier perform better at work and are more productive, which is great for everyone.”
